| Summary: | O presente estudo sobre o conflito das ilhas Falkland, que opõem o Reino Unido à Argentina, pretende, analisar os acontecimentos atuais, identificando indícios ou causas que poderão agravar a situação conflituosa e dar origem a uma nova crise internacional como a ocorrida em 1982. A realização da investigação tem como objetivo, efetuar a caracterização geográfica das ilhas Falkland, de forma a realizar, a análise da situação tendo em consideração os conceitos ministrados na âmbito da Teoria Geral da Guerra e na Teoria Geral da Estratégia, nomeadamente o modelo de desenvolvimento de uma crise internacional. Pretende, também, entender a importância e a dinâmica de poder em torno das ilhas, associadas aos acontecimentos atuais e a relevância da região do Atlântico Sul. A metodologia de investigação elencada assenta nas fases conceptual, metodológica e empírica segundo um estudo descritivo, utilizando as técnicas de recolha de dados a partir de dados documentais preexistentes e a entrevistas estruturadas do tipo intensivo. As entrevistas realizadas contribuíram para recolher os dados principais, que após realizada a análise qualitativa, permitiram comparar a informação com as ideias de outros autores. As ilhas Falkland através das infraestruturas e meios permitem a projeção de forças, bem como manter o controlo e segurança das principais rotas marítimas que atravessam a região, nomeadamente as que passam próximas à Antártida, Rio da Prata e grande rota do Cabo. A zona económica exclusiva das ilhas e águas circundantes apresentam uma riqueza considerável, nomeadamente ao nível de recursos energéticos e alimentares, suscetíveis de serem disputados pelos atores presentes na região. Abstract The present study on the conflict in the Falkland Islands, which oppose the United Kingdom to Argentina, aims to analyze the current events, identifying signs or causes which may aggravate the conflictual situation and lead to a new international crisis like the one that occurred in 1982. This research intention is to do geographical characterization of the Falkland Islands, in order to perform the analysis of the situation, taking into account the concepts taught in the General Theory of War and the General Theory of Strategy, namely the deve lopment model of an international crisis. It is also intends to understand the importance and the power dynamics around the Islands, linked to current events and the relevance of the South Atlantic region. The research methodology is based on the conceptual, methodological and empirical phases according to a descriptive study, using the techniques of data collection from existing documentary data and the structured type of intensive interviews. The interviews helped to collect the primary data that, after a qualitative analysis, allowed comparing the information with the ideas of other authors. Through their infrastructure and available means, the Falkland Islands allow the projection of forces, as well as the maintainance of control and security of major shipping routes that cross the region, particularly those that pass close to Antarctica, Rio de la Plata and great Cape route. The exclusive economic zone of the Islands and surrounding waters are of considerable wealth, particularly in terms of energetic and food resources, which are likely to be disputed by the actors in the region.
