Description
Summary:We give an overview of the representation of sea ice in coupled climate models. Such representation is based on the conservation of heat, mass, and momentum to represent the interaction between sea ice and the oceanic and atmospheric forcing. We introduce the underlying physical laws and discuss their numerical implementation. We also briefly describe the coupling of sea ice to the other components of climate models and discuss a few aspects related to the evaluation of the sea ice model component. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
