Description
Summary:"News & Issues" piece on the state salmon conservation plan, which focuses on five Downeast rivers and two Midcoast rivers. Salmon advocates from Trout Unlimited and the Atlantic Salmon Federation have asked the state to expand the plan to protect other rivers hosting wild salmon including several Penobscot and Kennebec River tributaries. Other rivers with wild salmon include Belfast Harbor tributaries Wescott Stream and the Passagassawaukeag River. But Ed Baum, senior scientist with the Atlantic Salmon Authority says the state hasn't provided the funding that would be necessary to expand the plan. With a related article about the possibility that chemicals are killing Gulf of Maine salmon.
