Kress has been successful in restoring puffins and terns to Maine's offshore islands, and has been invited to help restore petrels in the Galapagos, and two species of albatross in Hawaii and Japan. Gulls, which out-compete ground nesting birds for island nest sites, are controlled by using DRC 1339, an avicide. Arctic terns have increased 67 percent in Maine from 1984-1995, while common terns have increased 97 percent. |
