Description
Summary:The schooner Bowdoin, designed by William Hand and built by Hodgdon Brothers Shipyard in East Boothbay in 1921, made 26 expeditions to the Arctic Circle in the first half of the century, and in 1989 was designated a National Historic Landmark. The 88-foot Bowdoin, named Maine's official sailing vessel in 1986, returned Monday from a 5,200-mile trip north of the Arctic Circle. Ten students from the Maine Maritime Academy and six crew members were on deck as the boat tied up to the dock in Castine.
