Summary:"What's in a Picture?" 1893 photograph showing the wooden-hulled "San Joaquin,"returning to her home port of Portland after being severly damaged by an Antarctic iceberg during a disastrous passage from Japan around Cape Horn. Fortunately, the "San Joaquin" had been built soundly at the Soule Brothers shipyard in Freeport seventeen years before. Following repairs in Portland, the "San Joaquin" went back on the water for another thirty-six years.
