Description
Summary:SUMMARY Two pebble spits tie the former island Thordarhöfdi to the eastern part of Skagafjördur. A very large amount of coarse detrital material has fed the two spits, the shapes of which are quite different. The northern tombolo, Höfdamöl, is beaten by the swell coming from North North West and appears as a bay-head beach, very smooth on its outer slope, and bearing numerous lobes on Us bach slope. The southern tombolo, Boejarmöl, is widest in Us southeastern part where its connection to the mainland consists of a number of small sinuous pebble ridges. Boejarmöl was formerly a sort of comet-tail which remained parallel to the main wave direction. The writer also examines the raised beaches in Thordarhöfdi.
