Description
Summary:Counts of planktonic foraminifera shells in the upper samples of three sediment cores from the Labrador Sea: HU2008-029-004TWC, HU91-045-93BX and MD99-2227. Foraminifera shells were counted in a varying split of each sample, as indicated. Moreover, average species-specific weights were determined in some of the sample, as well as average shell weights of all species in each sample. Shell weight measurements were conducted with a Sartorius XM1000P micro balance (nominal resolution of 1 µg). The indicated ages of the depth intervals are mostly from published data. The two d14C dates of sediment core HU91-045-93BX were measured with the Mini Carbon Dating System (MICADAS) at the Alfred-Wegener-Institute Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research. Shell counts and weight measurements were conducted to calculate the (mass) accumulation rates of planktonic foraminifera in the recent sediment samples.
