Description
Summary:Alkenone sea surface temperature (SST) data for ODP Hole 104-642B, located on the Vøring Plateau: depth, age, sample mass and alkenone-based SST estimates. The sample mass represents the total amount of di- and tri-unsaturated alkenones (in nanograms) injected into the gas chromatography (GC) column during analysis. UK'37 SST estimates are calculated using the global core-top calibration of Conte et al. (2006) and the Bayesian calibration (BAYSPLINE) of Tierney and Tingley (2018). The UK'37 SSTs (calculated using the Conte et al. (2006) calibration) have subsequently been corrected for warming and cooling bias introduced during GC analysis, following the methods outlined in this study. The age model for ODP Hole 104-642B is based on the magnetostratigraphy of Bleil (1989) calibrated to the astronomically-tuned Neogene time scale of Hilgen et al. (2012). This dataset further constrains the magnitude and duration of alkenone-derived sea surface warming in the Nordic Seas during the mid-Piacenzian Warm Period.
