Summary:Bulk seawater, surface microlayer, ice core and brine samples from the Arctic, the North and Tropical Atlantic and Raunefjorden were investigated on their sugar concentrations. Free neutral monosaccharides (DFCHO) and combined monosaccharides/polysaccharides (CCHO) were determined using high performance anionic exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD) and electro-dialysis for prior desalination.
