Description
Summary:Gospel Trumpet 1881-June 3, 1962, Vital Christianity June 10, 1962-Sept. 1996, One Voice June/July 2004-Apr/May 2007 DAN1EL. GO SP EL Grand Junction, Mick., . February' tx, 1887 . Yo2urne 8. Number 23. gonized body," etc. Now that the Church, the body of Christ is an organization, an organized body is evident to any reader of the New_ Testament. The only ques-tion remaining to be settled is, who is the Organizer? The word organize, is defined by " To furnish with oregans," " To arrange in parts," " to form in due order," Now He that furnishes the Church with organs, and arranges the parts, or mem-hers, in due order, is He that organizes, That is, God Himself through the Holy Spirit. " Take heed therefore unto your selves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit bath made you overseers,( i. e., bishops according to the Greek ;) to feed the Church of God which He loath pur-chased with His own blood.,'-- Acts 20: 28. " And He gave some, apostles : and some, prophets and some, evangelists . and some, pastors and teachers: For the per-fecting of' the saints, for the work of the Ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ : Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ." Eph. 4: 11- 13. Here we see that God gave all the gifts and offices in the Church fully equipping the same, unto a perfect man, namely a perfect organic body. In 1 Cor. 12: 8- 10, the various gifts of the Church are spoken of, and then verse 11 adds,-" But all these worketh that one and the self- same Spirit, dividing to every man severally as He Will." God, by the Spirit, furnishes the organs. That is one definition of organ-izing. But who sets the members into the body, and organizes them in harmoni-ous relation to each- other, and each one to the. whole ? Answer., God, by the Spirit. " For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit, But now bath God set the mem-bers every one of them in the body, as it bath pleased Him. For our comely parts have no need : but God bath tempered the body together, having given more abund-ant honor to that part which lacked."- 1 Cor. 12: 13, 18, 21. These words with the above quotations, cover all that is contained in our English word organize, and it is all ascribed to God through the Spirit. It is neverthe-less true that the Acts mid Epistles talk of men ordaining Elders, and Deacons by the laying on of hands. - This does not conflict with the above Scriptures. God ordains by choosing, and qualifying, and men ordain such as God has ordained, by way of recognizing and dedicating to the work whereunto the Spirit has appointed them. 2nd " Did you not form a new church, or sect ?" Ans. No, we have ut-terly renounced all human organizing, con-structing, and . tinkering. We preach the Word, and God gives the increase. The Church only " increases with the increase of God," in any given place. We con-stantly affirm that " ye are complete in Ilim."- Christ. Col. 2: 10. ECONOMY. neatly Beloved saints and readers of VANDERBILT MICH. DEC. 19. Dear Friends. lam in receipt of a num-ber of GOSPEL TRUMPETS. of you. I have enjoyed reading them. It is an excellent good thing to have a religion that is real. A saving truth. I wish to ask you a - few questions which you may answer in an editorial, as many others would like to hear also. 1st. I am aware that you detest sectism. Do you have any name for your people ? If so, what is it ?" Ans- We have no people. Every body belongs either to God or to the devil. By reading the Word you will find that the people of God are called Qhristians, Be-lievers, Saints, etc. In their collective body they are called, " The Body ofChrist," " The Church of God," i. e., " the Church of the Living God." " The Church of the First- born, which are written in Heaven.' " The Church of all saints," etc. Collect-ively in the various geographical locations, they are called " The Churches," of any given district or country, i. e., " The Churches of God," or " Churches of Christ." 2nd question. " Do you not, in discard-ing the ten commandments, cause your-selves to be out of joint with all the re-formers of the past, and- the christian world in general ?" Ans. So every reformer was out of joint with every other reformer that preceded him, on all points of advance truth. If Luther, or some one else had not got out of joint with Rome, we would all still be jointed up in the carcas of that first great beast, And if God had not un-jointed other teachers from Lutheranism we would all be jointed. together as states in that beer- tub, and bound together with the hoops of a Lutheran oath. We praise God to- day for the " Word of God, which is quick, and. powerful, and sharper than any two- edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the Joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." And this Word of Eternal truth has utterly disjointed us from all the traditions, doctrines, creeds, confessions, and works of the dark ages of sect confu-sion. If we were in joint with the reform-ers and teachers of Protestantism, we would be in joint with the second beast, which " exerciseth all the power of the - first beast before him."- Rev. 13 : 12, While the reformers all discovered cer-tain points of Divine truth, before hid in the rubbish of the apostasy, they carried with them the main bulk of the supersti-tions and traditions of the " harlot house" out of which they were thrust. And their new creed: was a jointing together of the new discoveries and t he old mummeries. But full salvation, and the glorious eve-ning light, has cut every ligament, and perfectly disjointed us from the first beast - Romanism, the second beaa- t- Protest-antistn, and from the image of the beast - Associationism. And having come " unto the unity of the faith, and. of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ : That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the slight of men, and " cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. But speaking the - truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the Head, even Christ : From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, accord-ing to the effectual working in the meas-ure of every part, making increase of the Body unto the edifying of itself in love." - Eph. 4: 13- 16. Thus we are Jointed together by the love of God and power of truth in the Body of Christ, all holding Him the head, and disjointed from all traditions amen, and doctrines of devils. We know we . f ctl joined together with the And after these thing I saw anol h-er angel come down from Heaven hwaavs ilniggh gtreenaetd p wowither H aisn dgl othrye. eAanrtdh He cried mightly with a strong voice, saving, babylon the great is falien, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. Again you tell us, " There are clouds of mists which blind my eyes, arise before me when I read the Sabbath, Tract, which puts away those ten wordy Unwitingly you have here revealed the dark condition of your soul. " Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world : he that followeth me shall not walk in darknesse but shall have the light of life."-- john 8: 12. " If we say that we have fellowship with with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth."- 1 John 1: 6. We beseech you to call upon God to " deliver you from the power of darkness, and translate you into the kingdom of His dear Son."--- Col. 1: 13. " What commun-ion bath light with darkness ?"- None. Therefore when the pure light of God's Word comes before your mind it stirs up, and reveals the darkness of your saturn-arian idol, and shows you the mists while living under the curse of the law. Dear friend, we speak unto you in love, therefore use plainness of speech. You wished to convey the idea that there is something wrong in the position of the Sabbath tract, hence the " clouds of mists which blind your eyes" in reading the same. But unto us which " walk in the light, as He ( God) is in the light, " there is no darkness at all." When we read the truth we know it is the truth, and all is light. And when we read error, we know it is error; and no " clouds of mists blind our eyes." It is only a heart that is in the mists and fogs of error, that can have your experience. 3rd question. " There la . on array of passages which run through my mind like these.-" Bnt his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law doththe medi-tate day and night."- Psalm 1: 2. " The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul : the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple."- Psa. 19: 7. if it was perfect why was it done away ? If it was able to convert the soul, why was it abolished ? Ans. Dear sir if you should. ever be so happy as to enter the glorious dispensa-tion of the Holy Spirit, and read. the Psalms in the light of the Spirit of God, you will find that they contain a glorious prophetic description of New Testament Spirituality. David was, in the providence of God, permitted to pass through a won-derfully great variety of life of exal-tation, banishment and victory, honor and dishonor, poverty and wealth : so that under his varied vicisitudes of life, and the Spirit of inspiration, he has been able to write something that touches nearly every point in all Christian experience. Tile Psalms do not so much treat on the law but they breathe the Spirit of the Gospel.- What is said in the above- texts do not apply to the ten commandments, but to the law of Christ. Conversion is the experience of the pardon of sins, and it, is not true that the ten commandments convert the soul. Because pardon is promised in those len commandments. It was " the ministration of death written and engraven on stone."- 2 Cor. 3: 7. The Gospel is the ministration of mercy and pardon. To " convert the soul" is the same as to justify the soul. Are souls justified by the law ? No. " Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law efor- by the works of the law` shill no flesh be j utsified."- Gal. 2: 16. But we are " justified freely by His ( Christ's) grace, through the redemption th at is in Christ Jesus"- Rome 3 : 24. " The law came by Moses- the whole legal econ-omy- but grace and truth by the Lord Jesus Christ." Again we are ." justified by faith."- Rom. 5: 1. And " the law is not 4271E8t, p: 124,1 \ tAli in the same dispensation. While the law was all right for the ob-ject desired by it, it was not perfect, at all, as adapted to the Kingdom of God. If the law had been perfect, it would have made men perfect, but this it could not dn. " For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God."- Heb. 7 : 19. " But now hath He obtained a more ex-cellent ministry, by how much also He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had , been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah."- Heb. 8 : 6- 8 If that covenant, written on stone was not " faultless," and the New Testament is a " more excellent ministry," surely the faulty, and less excellent, cannot be said to be perfect, And it being declared im-perfect, cannot be the lawDavid speaks of. Again, see Psalm 89 : 34-" my cov-enant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips." " He says He will not break it nor alter it." Ans. How do you know that the words above refer to the ten commandment covenant ? You ought to know what you are talking about, before you venture your own assertions. You should' have read the connection, and seen that the coven-ant hbre spoken of has no allusion to the law covenant at all, but to God's special covenant with David. To apply 1 John 5 : 3, to the ten com-mandments, is utter blindness, and sect-ish perversity. You know that God" speaks to us in these last days by His Son." You know that the voice of God from Heaven said, ‘‘ This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased, hear ye Rim." Peter said, " it shall come to pass that Whosoev-er will not hear that prophet- Christ-- shall be destroyed from among the peo-ple." Christ commissioned no one to enjoin the law given on Sinai but told His ministers to teach the people to " ob-serve whatsoever He had commanded." Other points upon which our questioner Mr. C. Corless, is stumbling about on the dark mountains, we cannot take space to notice. Some of them are made so plain in the Sabbath tract, that any person not having the law veil over his heart cannot fail to understand. And until he " turns to the Lord," the same veil will remain untaken away, whatever we or any one else may write. Turn to the Lord brother and get salvation, and your clouds of mist will all pass away. -: 0 :- QUAKERTOWN, PA. JAN. 19. The meeting continued two weeks in the name of King Jesus. The meeting commenced in the Post school- house, continued about one week, when some of The drunken bab-ylonians got up a petition, and closed the school- house against God's people, and His Word, These are stiffnecked, and un-circumcised in heart, and . they do always resist the Holy Spirit. They have a form of Godliness, but they deny the power they are drunk on the wine of the wrath of her fornication. ( babylon wine, sectism.) Then we continued the meeting at Sister Swartz's a few nights, until we fixed up a house on Bro. Rutherford's place, and we continued meetinguntil we closed the 27th of Jan. Sister Swartz was reclaimed, and sanctified; received a mighthty baptism of the Holy Spirit. She declares herself free from babylon. May the dear Lord keep her faithful until the end of time. There were three converted and three sanctified, and others strengthened and built up in the most holy faith some moved out into the gifts of the Spirit. Bro. Rutherford and his wife came out of bab-ylon, and are free. May God help them to get their eyes off of men, and get them on Jesus He is our example to follow. May they move out in the will, and order of God, and obey Rev. 18: 4. VICTORY AT BEAVER DAM IND. —: 0:— DEAR Barrnam— The Lord has won a glorious victory over the devil in this Place. Many that were bound by the sect bond was made free indeed by the blood of the Son of God. To Him be all the glory, Amen I came to this place Jan. 18th, and the 19th began to pour out the " hail and fire mingled with blood," which had a good ef-fect on the people and caused them to sub-mit themselves to the Lord and letHim save them from all their sins, filthiness and idols. - Bro. David Leininger and the lit-tle ones had begun meeting the 8th and held it up to the time 1 arrived and two had found the Lord precious to their souls. From that time in most every meeting both day and night souls were saved and made happy. Some would go home shout-ing and others filled with laughter for the Son had made them free. Hallelujah to God for this blessed assurance that we can know that we are saved and approved of Him. In three weeks and three days there were 37 consecrated. for - pardon and 39 for sanctification. Many dear ones that once enjoyed the blessed gift of entire sanctifi-cation, but lost it by not obeying the voice out of Heaven saying, " come out of her my people," were willing to kneel down at the feet of Jesus and plead for mercy and die out to all sectism. 0 how our hearts did rejoice to see dear Bro. Frank Bear, wife and daughter come to the chop-ping- block and suffer the loss of all things for Christ and the salvation of their poor souls. May God bless them in seeking out the lost, is the earnest and constant prayer of my heart to God. Poor sinners who belonged to the U. B's and W. B's, came to the mercy seat and found pardon of all their sins, and were willing to sever their connection from the sect to which they belonged without salvation. Dear TRUMPET readers :— God bless you all with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. Amen ! We opened war against sin about the 23rd of Nov. at this place with the confi-dence and assurance of God, that a work should be done here for God. Before com-mencing this work, we went to God in prayer, and He save us the evidence that He was pleased with the step that we were taking in moving to town and renting a building to hold meeting in. The Lord plainly made known unto us that nothing less than two months was sufficient to ac-complish the work. So we commenced in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. At firsttherewere but a few that would come to meeting. The people were so filled with prejudice that they would not come to hear. So we prayed God to visit then; at their homes, and he heard our prayer. Glory to His name! Now and then one would consecrate, but many of the little ones who were with us nearly became discour-aged but we held on to God by faith, knowing that he sent us here, and we were willing to work, and leave the re-sult with Him. The last two weeks of the meetings was a glorious success. For-ty- two consecrations for pardon, and the most of them received a bright evidence of pardon, and quite a number received the glorious experience of entire sanctifi-cation. 0 praise God for the victory in our soul while writing these lines. 0 the necessity of earnest laborers rushing to the cities to rescue the thousands that are be-ing led. down to eternal woe by the abom-inable teachers in the sects, who only seek their own gain for these shepherds feed themselves and feed not my flock; there-fore 0 ye shepherds here the Word of the Lord. I felt the Spirit striving with me, and many times I resolved to serve . the Lord; yes, and I even promised God that if He would spare my life until some fu-ture events passed in my life, that I would serve Him, and as many times I have broken my promise, When I look back over my past life, I think what a merciful God I have, who followed me for 4S years before I was brou ght to the true light. But I thank God that He permitted me to live until 1 beard the Word of God preached in its purity. A little over a year ago, I heard Bro. Warner preach the straight Word of God, regardless of the sects and. the devil, and it stirred the devil in me so I could hardly stay in the house. Bro. Warner tried to talk to me about my souls welfare, and the devil was wonderfully stirred in me, but what he said set me to reading the Bible, because I thought lie quoted Scripture that was not in the Bible, but I found his Bible and mine were just the same. I can truly say that I am saved and kept by the power of God: L have used tobacco ever since I was a boy, and when I was out of tobacco it was almost impossible to live with me. Ihave tried in my own strength many times to quit the habit, but when I got the salva-tion of Jesus in my soul, I asked God to take the appetite from me, and it was done. One year has passed since I have tasted tobacco, and I do praise God for delivering me from the chains of the devil. Pray for as, that we enter not into temptation.
