Summary:Scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory and collaborators are uncovering the mystery of how, where and when a glacial feature called a moulin can form on the Greenland Ice Sheet. Moulins, drain-like holes that form in glaciers, funnel meltwater from the ice surface to the ground beneath, and they are the alarmingly efficient conduits that allow surface water to reach deep and drive the ice to flow faster.
