Description
Summary:While interest in probiotic use in aquaculture is not a new phenomenon, the past few years have seen great developments in probiotic research in Salmo spp. This review examines the corpus of literature surrounding the use of probiotics in some of the species of Salmo most important to modern aquaculture, including Salmo salar, S. coruhensis, S. trutta, and S. trutta caspius, with a particular emphasis on the most recent research. The use of many of these probiotics is associated with such host benefits as enhanced growth, nutrition, and immunity. These benefits and the potential applicability of these probiotics to the modern aquaculture of Salmo are reviewed herein.
