Description
Summary:Guy Jacques honorary research director at the CNRS tells of the forty or so years spent in this agency as well as the twenty plus years of very active retired life spent as a scientific popularizer. Full of often entertaining stories, this book starts with the acceptance at the CNRS without thesis or publication that today’s candidates would envy! These were the times when oceanography was a national priority. Besides his own research on phytoplankton (he started a program of study of the Antarctic ocean), Jacques talks about his various postings: CNRS, Ifremer and Orstom where he was director of scientific information. It is obviously not by chance that the author chose as subtitle to this book the sentence: “the best of lives!”
