Summary:The article presents a study on the marine and terrestrial factors that affect Adélie penguin Pygoscelis adeliae chick growth as well as fledging mass off the western Antarctic Peninsula. In order to examine these factors, the researchers used an individual-based bioenergetics model which stimulates the growth of the penguins. The researchers believe that the results provide insight into climate-driven processes which influence chick growth and emphasize the need for field research that is designed to analyze the factors that identify the availability of Age-Class 3 yr (AC3) and older Antarctic silverfish.
