Summary:Nikolai came over to our house in the evening and volunteered several words and phrases that he had been thinking about. He wanted to record things unique to conversational Koryak, difficult to translate into Russian and typical of full conversation in everyday life among full speakers. I thought I heard him talking outside, and it turned out that he was talking on the phone with his younger brother, asking him about these words. Valya and Liumila Piatnikova are talking pedagogy in the background. Learned Russian as 4th language starting in grad school and extensive residence in Kamchatka (1995 5mos, 1997-98 17 months). Had very good conversational skills by summer 1997 and fluent by early 1998, at least in listening. Has thick American accent. Knows a few words of Koryak for social situation.
