Description
Summary:Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Water geyser rises as a German bomb nearly gets an aircraft carrier in a Russia-bound convoy. The bomb exploded and the water wall almost covers the protecting destroyer at right of the burst. The convoy was described by the British as the "biggest allied convoy to Russia." It had to fight through four days of sustained attack by enemy torpedo planes and U-boats to deliver the cargoes. Photo was taken at the height of the battle while the convey was rounding the Arctic turn north of Norway."
