| Summary: | One of the last remaining frontiers in polar science is understanding the interactions between the broad, shallow shelf-seas and Eurasian-continental hydrologic system that span the gateways to the Arctic Ocean. In recognition of the importance of the Eurasian Arctic in influencing and responding to climate change a series of workshops were held to define research directions of mutal interest between North American and former Soviet Union colleagues. This publication contains summaries of three National Science Foundation, Arctic System Science supported workshops held in 1995. The initial workshop, held in Columbus, Ohio in January 1995, provided a wealth of insigtht to formulate both broad and specific research questions. A subsequent follow-up workshop in Arlington, Virginia provided addition definition on research strategies. The final workshop, organized by Russian colleagues at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia in November, 1995, provides a perspective on research priorities of former Soviet Union colleagues.
