| Summary: | "Proceedings of a workshop sponsored by the Office of Polar Programs, National Science Foundation, June 19th-22nd, 1996, Antarctic Marine Geology Research Facility, Tallahasee, Florida, U.S.A." This report details procedures and results from an integrated study of a Sirius Group deposit from Mount Feather in the Dry Valleys region of the Transantarctic Mountains The objectives of the study were to: 1. More closely document the Mount Feather Diamicton, both its nature and constituents, to better understand its relationship with other Sirius Group deposits exposed in the Transantarctic Mountains; 2. Sample it at depth using a dry coring rig in order to test the hypothesis that any age diagnostic marine microfossils that are recovered are only present on the surface of the diamicton and due to eolian processes, and 3. Attempt to find common ground between the polarized communities investigating the Neogene glacial and climatic history of Antarctica. This report details the background and rationale for such a study, the collection and storage of core material, the workshop where the cores were described and sampled, and results of individual laboratory investigations.
