Summary: | Guidebook for INQUA Commission II, Field Conference, 7-16 June 1986, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, Alaska. Revised March 1987. The need for a Glacier Bay field trip for glacial geologists was recognized more than a decade ago; however, logistics presented serious problems, particularly with respect to transportation and accommodation. The option of building a cabin by the bay, as done by John Muir more than 100 years ago, is no longer available. The opportunity arose to host a field conference for the INQUA (International Quaternary Association) Commission on Genesis and Lithology of Quaternary Deposits (Commission II). This trip provides the opportunity to discuss the genesis of landforms associated with the rapidly changing glacial occupation of Glacier Bay. The guide is organized by topic beginning with glaciers and deglaciation and ending with terrestrial and marine deposits.
