Summary: | The "Castalia" was laid down by the Globe Iron Works of Cleveland, Ohio in 1890. She was owned by the H. H. Brown Company of Cleveland, Ohio until 1916. During the next two years, she was owned by Mentor Steamship Company of Cleveland, Ohio. In 1918, she was cut in two to be transported through the Welland Canal to Montreal. On her first voyage after being rejoined, she foundered off Sable Island, Newfoundland January 11, 1919. Four lives were lost. |
