Outwash plain -Skeidararsandur

View to the NE across a portion of the Skeidararsandur, a broad outwash plain in south central Iceland. This portion of Iceland route 1 was washed out by the 1996 jokulhlaup, a flood of meltwater generated by an eruption of Grimsvotn, a volcanic center beneath the Vatnajokull ice cap.
