Summary: | Steeply-inclined sedimentary strata the left side of the image are juxtaposed with serpentinized peridotites of the Bay of Islands complex by a thrust fault. That fault was later folded and this view is nearly along the original slip direction. The peridotites to the right of the image have been displaced toward the viewer and the strata to the left have been displaced away from the viewer across what was once a subhorizontal fault. Note metamorphism of strata, apparent in the red to green color change and the prominent white mylonitic gneiss along the fault. |
