Description
Summary:Halobates micans was sorted from 212 surface tows taken along three transatlantic transects. 61 tows were positive; 48 were from a single transect between Cape Town and the Canary Islands. 2,016 insect specimens were collected, including nymphs of all five developmental stages, adults and cast skins. The occurrence and abundance of Halobates appeared to correlate with sea-surface temperatures: higher numbers were sampled above 24° C.
