Description
Summary:A long driveway leads up the expansive lawn in front of the Tomkins Cove post office building. The post office is a three story side-gabled building with a one story addition on the side. A long wooden staircase leads to the second story porch. A large flagpole with no flag is in front of the building. The post office is surrounded by trees and much of the building is obscured. Two children are sitting on the lawn about half-way up the long driveway to the post office. A long rock and stone wall lines the side of the property. On the far side of the stone wall a side gabled building with vented cupola peeks out from behind a row of trees. This building is the high school. There is no writing on the reverse of the postcard. On the back of the postcard there is a maker's marks including a shamrock with the letters A. N. C in each of its leaves over the words, N.Y. Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin. Above the shamrock is the work 'Excelsior'. Printed words along the side edge of the postcard indicate that the postcard was by E. J. Sengstacker, Tomkins Cove, N. Y. and Made in Germany. Some other words are missing as a result of damage to the back of the postcard. The necessary postage is indicated as one cent in the United States, and Island Possessions, Cuba, Canada, and Mexico and two cents in all other countries.
