Summary: | IMD has a long history of involvement with research projects for the offshore industry. Studies have included towing of structures which were planned for eventual operation in the Arctic, hydrodynamics of tension leg platforms, motions and mooring measurements on semi-submersible structures and wave loads on gravity based structures. This report presents examples of model testing such structures in waves, wind and current environments. Research related to the Hibernia project is highlighted. It concludes with an outline of future plans based on evidence of industry interest in systems for operation in deep water, the use of single point moorings, and shuttle tanker systems.
