Description
Summary:This chapter contains information on the elastic properties of the various H(2)O ice types that have been studies to date. The ice types include high-pressure/low-temperature polymorphs, deuterated ice, clathrate hydrates, and sea ice. The studies are summarized and the methods of investigation discussed. Bulk elastic properties of polycrystallline samples, calculated and/or measured, are given and single crystal data, available in several cases, are presented. Pressure and temperature dependencies of the elastic properties, where available, are also presented. Brine volume and stress rate influences are included in the discussion of sea ice.
