Summary:Acoustic emission in conjunction with visual observation, was monitored in a High Arctic field laboratory in multi-year columnar-grained sea ice during uniaxial compression tests in a wide range of loading rates. AE observations were compared with the visual observation and an estimation of tensile strength and its rate sensitivity was made from the data obtained. Dans un laboratoire de terrain de l'Extrême-Arctique, on a mesuré, tout en procédant à une observation visuelle, l'émission acoustique (EA) dans de la glace de mer à grains prismatiques âgée de plusieurs années, dans le cadre d'essais de compression uniaxiale avec divers taux de charge. Les observations concernant l'EA ont été comparées aux résultats de l'observation visuelle; à partir des données aux résultats de l'observation visuelle; à partir des données aux résultats de estimé la résistance de la glace à la traction et sa sensibilité au taux de charge.
