Summary: | Soil samples from deep drill holes in permafrost have been analyzed with particular regard to lithology and ice occurrence. The occurrence of moisture accumulation and ice lensing was found to be compatible with predictions from air intrusion tests on the soil materials. Regard is paid to the special geomorphological conditions at the drill sites, and to recent findings in laboratory research on soil freezing.
