Summary:Formal studio portrait of Gudmundur Grimson dressed in a suit and necktie. Gelatin silver prints; 6 x 8 cm. "Judge Grimson" - handwritten on back of photograph. Title supplied by staff. Photographer unknown. Gudmundur Grimson was born in Iceland in 1878, and immigrated to Milton, Dakota Territory in 1882. He received degrees from the University of North Dakota and University of Iceland. He practiced law in Munich, N.D. and was editor of the Munich Herald. He was State's Attorney for Cavalier County, and would later serve as Special Assistant Attorney General in the Tabert case in Florida. He served as judge in the second judicial district from 1926-1949, and was later appointed to the North Dakota Supreme Court, where he served from 1949-1958. Grimson died in 1965.
