A three-judge appeals panel ruled Tuesday that Chief U.S. District Judge Michael Davis erred when he cut the judg-ment against Jammie Thom-as- Rasset to $54,000. Juries ruled against the Brainerd woman in three separate trials since 2006. Davis said the last judgment, of $1.5 million dol-lars, was appalling. But the appeals court says the awards against her were not unreasonable. It sent the case back to Davis for an or-der that she pay $222,000 — the judgment from her first trial — and issue an injunction to bar her from making the plain-tiffs' recordings available for distribution via online file sharing systems in the future. OLIVIA, Minn. (AP) — Po-lice are asking for the public's help in finding whoever set the fire that destroyed the con-tents of a west-central Minne-sota food shelf. A passer-by discovered the fire Sunday in a downtown Ol-ivia building that housed the Renville County Food Shelf. No one was hurt. A person living in a second-floor apart-ment was able to escape safely. Smoke and heat caused exten-sive damage to a hair salon, an American Red Cross office and the apartment. The state fire marshal de-termined the fire was arson. It apparently was set in the food shelf entrance. A food shelf volunteer tells the West Central Tribune of Willmar the fire destroyed all of the food shelf's contents, in-cluding five freezers and three refrigerators. She says food shelf operators hope to reopen quickly. LOHJA, Finland (AP) — An award-winning chef has opened a new restaurant in Finland that turns the idea of "pop-up" eateries upside down: it's located 80 meters (260 feet) underground. Discerning food lovers are being served salted salmon, veal tenderloin, snails cooked in Pernod and apple crumble in the "pop-down" restaurant in a limestone mine in the small, southern town of Lo-hja, 60 kilometers (40 miles) west of Helsinki. A four-course evening meal costs 128 Euro ($160), includ-ing drinks and transportation from Helsinki to the mine and back. In major cities around the world "pop-up" restaurants — temporary eateries often lo-cated in underused kitchens — are allowing young chefs with experience to experi-ment without risk of bank-ruptcy. But Finnish chef Timo Lin-namaki said the idea of pre-paring food down a mine was all part of being close to the earth. "'Pop-down' is such a unique idea that I just had to do it," Linnamaki said Monday, a few hours before the first guests arrived. "It's great working down here be-cause you are totally cut off from the world, so nothing distracts from the cooking." Eerie blue lights cut deep shadows into the ceiling of the large, dim, underground cavern, a former smithy FROM PAGE 1 "My other fear is that you will give up or become overwhelmed," Watkin said. "Start with knowledge and a desire to know more. Start with love and compassion." Rose Mapendo started an organization called Mapendo New Horizon's whose mission statement is: "To give help and hope to vulnerable survivors of physical, psychological, and social trauma in Africa by ensuring them easy access to health care, protection and security" FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Two more Yosemite National Park visitors have been found with a mouse-borne virus blamed for the deaths of two people, bringing the total number of infections to six, state health officials said Thursday. Anita Gore, a spokeswom-an for California Department of Public Health, said the dis-coveries were made through the agency's investigation into cases of hantavirus pul-monary syndrome at the famed park. The infections spurred park officials to close 91 tent cabins at Curry Village in Yo-semite Valley, where five of the six infections occurred. Gore said one of the infected people may have been in an-other area of the park. "Our investigation is try-ing to determine which area ot the park that person vis-where drills were hammered to dig into the bowels of the Earth. 011i-Pekka Jantti, a com-puter retailer from Helsinki, said his meal there was su-perb. "The food was absolutely delicious," Jantti said, after supping on starters of ven-dace —a small local fresh-wa-ter fish — snails and berries. "What I liked was that the theme of the evening was the earth, and being so deep down you really felt you were some-where very different, very strange." The 115-year-old mine goes down to a depth of 380 meters (1,250 feet) where limestone is still mined, mainly for the chemical industry. Linnamaki, whose res-taurant Muru — "crumb" in Finnish — won this year's gourmet title in Finland only two years after it opened, says the experience of working down in the gloomy depths has inspired him to search for new challenges. "Certainly it's the weirdest place I have cooked," he said. "It could be difficult to find something on par." The 64-seat restaurant, with long, shiny wooden ta-bles lit by candles, is expect-ing brisk business. Linnama-ki said it is fully booked until the experiment ends on Sept. 29. "We'll be underground Monday to Saturday. On Sun-days, we pop up to sleep," he said. Concordia students have the ability to donate money to provide healthcare, education and transportation of tech-nology to survivors of social trauma in Africa. There is also opportunity to donate time to help raise awareness through social media and gatherings. Mapendo also added, "We need people with passion, people who can speak more languages, people who can travel and even sing." The reactions of students from Mapendo's speech were shown by the flock of people that instantly surrounded ited," Gore said. Over the past three weeks, two people have died of hantavirus pulmonary syn-drome after staying in cabins at Curry Village in Yosemite Valley. Park officials said the dou-ble- walled design of the cab-ins that were closed Tuesday made it easy for mice to nest between the walls. The dis-ease is carried in the feces, urine and saliva of deer mice and other rodents. The two that died had stayed the so-called "Signa-ture" cabins. Mike Gauthier, Yosemite chief of staff, said the design of the luxury cab-ins that are new to the park allowed for rodent infesta-tion. "We just weren't aware that design would lead to it," he said. Senior Sarah Funkhouser, president of Concordia's new interfaith group, Better Together, said, "One thing I will take away that she said was how can you hate somebody that you don't know. Everybody has a story" Faculty members alike were in awe of Mapendo's speech, and Music Professor Dr. Jeffery Meyer expressed how Mapendo's intense focus on forgiveness was a constant theme in persistence that is possible for both her and for us all. like symptoms but can quick-ly affect the lungs. It can take up to six weeks to incubate. Five of the people who fell ill are known to have stayed in the tent cabins in June or July, and warnings have gone out to visitors who stayed in Curry Village in June, July or August. The hantavirus outbreak occurred despite efforts by park officials to step up pro-tection efforts last April. A 2010 report from the state health department warned park officials that rodent in-spection efforts should be in-creased after a visitor to the Tuolumne Meadows area of the park fell ill. The new hantavirus pol-icy, enacted April 25, was designed to provide a safe place, "free from recognized hazards that may cause seri-ous physical harm or death."
