Quie issues proclamation ChliSttTiaS COPICert Epic set for Christmas break begins tonight The Ski Minnesota Epic, a 10-day, 250-mile cross-country ski trip from Moorhead to Duluth, is set for Dec. 28 through Jan. 6. According to -chairpersons Sara Haglin, Mark Berntson and Dennis Cuchna, about 30 students are expected to partcipate. Minnesota Governor Al Quie will issue a proclamation declar-ing Dec. 28 through January 6 as "Ski Across Minnesota Days" some time around Dec. 15,ac-cording to Student Activities Director. Paul Erickson. The proclamation urges "all citizens to join in this observance and to express their appreciation and recognition to the "Ski Minnesota Epic" and its focus on the state's Nordic skiing tradi-tion." ^ The skiers will be the first group known to ski across the state in an uninterrupted period of time. Skiers will travel 25-30 miles per day and will pass through or near the communities of Callaway, Ponsford, Osage, Park Rapids, Menahga, Pine River, Palisade, Wright Crom-well and Hermantown. They will enter Duluth via the Skyline Parkway. Cost for the trip is approxi-mately $55. Each participant is expected to condition for the strength and endurance neces-sary for the trip. According to co-chairperson Haglin, "This trip is a significant challenge since Concordia is one of Minnesota's leaders in out-door pursuits and education." Haglin went on to add that "It's a great time to enjoy the outdoors, meet new people; and find out what you can really do." That trip is set for June 15 through July 30, 1980. Leader of the expedition is Paul Erickson. Greenland expedition mem-bers will participate in the Minnesota trip to test equip-ment and the effects of sub-zero weather conditions. "Things like this expedition serve to strengthen the best qualities in people through the challenges and the spirit that it promotes," Erickson said. He said it symbolizes "the coming of age in this country of enthu-siasm for Nordic skiing" and "identifies with the spirit of the Vikings: to enter the unknown boldly with a faith in the promise of the journey." Greenland expedition mem-bers are: Paul Erickson, T. Brice Addison, Shelley D. Addison, Sandy Brady, Dean Drevlaw, Cheryl Montain, John Vadheim, Kitsi Vadheim. Performances of the Con-cordia College Christmas Con-cert begin at 8 p.m. tonight in the Memorial Auditorium. The program includes many selec-tions under the theme "Em-manuel, God With Us." This year's concert will ex-plore man's search for God and the communication they share. The art department, with many volunteers, has been busy these past three weeks pre-paring a visual presentation of the theme. Designed by David Hetland, director of Communi-cations, the backdrop portrays scenes of the Creation, Psalm 23, Christ's birth, His resurrec-tion, and the promise of salva-tion. Six performances are sche-duled. On campus, the program will be presented tonight and Saturday night at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Two concerts in the Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis on Dec. 19 have also been sold out.
