Summary:Page 10 September 13, 1974 Confident or Cocky? -distinction of ability by Jon Gossett staff writer John "Jet" Jordano is a wide receiver on the Con-cordia football team. The senior from Hopkins is as sharp off the field as he is on, and in answering some questions, proved again there is no such thing as a dumb jock. Question: "Why do you play football?" Answer: "The reason I play football was a finan-cial thing. When you get up in the college level it's more of a business than it was in high school." Question: "Is football a game or a way of life or ^ust a fun time with you? And is pressure player?" there on a you lot as ofa Answer: "There's a lot of pressure involved, more than people think, and they do play for blood. It gets to be a way of life. It can be fun; when you win it's fun. For me when they throw me the ball it's fun. Of course, prac-tice is work." Question: "What field of study are you pursuing and what field would you like to go into?" Answer: "Political sci-ence and history. I'll pro-bably go into business." Answer: "I want to get an education. Football is a big part of my life right now. A lot of guys won't even play again after this year, and I may not either. But yeah, it's a big part of my life." Question: "D o Concordia?" you like Answer: "Partly I came here because it had a good name and it was a good educational institu-tion. I didn't know how conservative it yeah, I like it." was. But Question: "W hat's the outlook for the team this year in your opinion?" Answer: "Our defense is a lot better and that helps a lot. Our offense, well, like in the second half we really came out and drove the ball. Our offensive line really came through. Our defense played good ball yesterday and we put points on the board. You have to have a good year to get points on the board. We should. We'll play it game by game and not look too far ahead." Question: "Some people think you're a hot dog and act 'cocky.' What's your opinion on this? Are you a hot dog or just quite sure of yourself and what you can do?" 2y r . old R G A Stereo with speakers GOOD CONDITION 236-5759 DIAMOND RINGS • REGISTERED * INSURED NEUBARTH'S JEWELRY "The City Hall is across the Mall" MOORHEAD CENTER MALL Answer: "Maybe there's a difference between cocky and confidence. I suppose I give a cocky approach. Well, I suppose I have confidence in my ability or I wouldn't be out on the field. If I have confidence in self, nobody else When I'm out there run-ning a pattern it's just me. If I don't feel I can catch the ball or beat the guy, there's no sense in don't m'if.: w being out the truth.' there. That's Question: "There have been a number of 'pro scouts' looking at you. Do you think if the oppor-tunity of turning pro came, you would take it?" Answer: "If I had an opportunity I would for sure. How many guys do get the opportunity to begin with? I think if you throw it away it would be dumb. Ever since I've been a kid I thought of pro ball. I'd be thrilled! I'd be honored! I'd be thrilled just to be picked!" Question: "W-hat do you think is your strong suit; your patterns or your ability to catch?" Answer: "I think I have a combination of both. I know I can get open. I'm fast enough. I think my fakes are good enough to get open. I'm getting open and catching the ball. Another strong suit of my game is I think I have a mentaledge over a lot of those players. I just feel like I know I'm going to get open. I suppose that is cocky but I feel no one can cover me one on one." Question: "What do you get from football?" Answer: "I enjoy the glory. A lot of players try and be humble and say they don't enjoy the glory and don't notice it. But I do. I'd be lying if I said I didn't. I don't know if it carries over into later life, maybe it does. I don't notice it mentally. I'm around competition and maybe that will make me a better businessman. I think you need competi-tion or your mind be-comes lazy and you can't respond." Question: "W hat do you think of the fans here?" Answer: "Well, they al-ways start out fine. There isn t a great enthusiasm, it's not bad, it's okay, it isn't anything super, it could be better. I suppose when you win you get a .better turnout. They don't really promote it* And when it starts get-ting colder people quit coming/' Vd like to wish the Cobbers good luck in what will be a successful season. Also, I urge you to come out and support the Cobbers. W here's your spirit?
