University Dr. Fargo Open Forum (continued page 1) Student: To what can you attribute the difference between what the Task Force, as competent people, advocated and what we have, how can you explain that? Dion: The only way I can explain that is that the Task Force was charged specifically with evaluating on-campus living environment and specifically again inter-dorm visitation. There was nowhere in their charge any mention of policy decision or policy making nor was there anyone on that Task Force, with possibly the exception of myself, who had all delved in policy decisions. They came up with recommendations based on their data which was essentially perceived needs of students. Student: Mr. Dion, were you in favor of the 6-12 Friday night; 1-6 Saturday; and 1-5 Sunday hours? Dion: That was my recommendation, yes. Student: Are you then dissatisfied with the situation, the four hour increase? Dion: No, I'm not. present Student: If you were in favor of the increase, how can you not be dissatisfied with the four hour increase? Carl Lee then explained that the hours as set up by the Inter-dorm Task Force really represented the minimum. Lee explained that the task force asked for what they "thought they could get. All we could do finally was to submit a recommendation to the Student Affairs Commit-tee and that was the end of it and we could not immediately affect anything after that." Morrie Lanning explained what happened to the Task Force Recommendation: "From there it went to the Student Affairs Committee and the committee said that we recommend to the President Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1-5. Then we asked the college to conduct a survey from alumni, parents, and constituents away from the school to find out how they felt about this issue. The last one that was done is about 6 years old. And at the urging of a number of us, the committee said O.K., we want this survey conducted. If the data comes back favorable of more hours, then at that point, the Student Affairs Committee would recommend to the president that possibly Friday night 6-12 be added to the nours. Now let me also report that this survey is going to be conducted this spring or early summer so that the results will be in hand by next fall. Now my point of bringing this up is to show that we have an open mind about this whole issue and that the issue is not died and cast in cement forever, and I think that's indicated by the fact that there was a change in the first place. PLACEMENT Student: In last week's Concordian there was an article which stated that the placement figures are considerably lower than has often been claimed by the college. What about this? Dave Benson: I think the article that came out on Friday has a basic misunderstanding in there and that was that Phil Hanson doesn't know what the placement figures are. I think his contention was that the placement figures are not the critical figures-the accountability ones are the critical ones, and that he does have both. The response I got from Phil (Hanson) on accountability figures that come in are in terms of where people go and that what happens helps us in terms of responding to where people are trained. .I think that what Phil is saying is that these kind of figures of knowing where everybody goes gives us a feel for the kind of backgrounds people are coming out of and where they go. To the editor: This is a letter from the young man dressed in a dark suit walking around your campus the past week. I have been inviting many of your professors to a banquet in honor of Rev. Sun Myung Moon. I would like to thank all of you for you kindness and hospitality to me. Also I would like to say how im-pressed I am with the high Christian atmosphere on campus. The love of Christ shines in so many of your faces. Unfortunately, that is not the case in campuses all over the country. So many people our age are rejecting Christian values and Christ's redemption without understanding what they are rejecting or why they do so. People lead pointless lives. Families break apart. The Christian world remains fragmented, unable to breathe new life into an increasingly sick American society. That is why Rev. Moon began this difficult, arduous and expensive tour. He does confront Christians with the hardest and most funda-mental Questions about their faitn, but only by doing so can we find new life and clear direction for out relationship with the living God. How many people to-day really seek and trust in His guidance? How many think to comfort and soothe God's aching heart? A local fraternity on you campus was kind enough to invite French and Japanese members of the Unification Movement to speak to stu-dents on campus. The hope was that a dialog could pro-mote thoughtful searching and sharing. But on Tuesday morning, April 2t due to the pressure of a few members of your community who felt that our message should not be heard, my brothers and sis-ters from France and Japan were asked to leave your campus. At first my heart was angry. But now I just feel saa. Jesus refused to judge, and even loved, the adulter-ess, when everyone else was ready to stone her. Would he not have granted a min-imal Christian attentiveness to a guest? You will hear and read many things about Rev. Moon. Have you asked yourself if any of the people who are so quick to judge have themselves heard him speak even once? Jesus has been Rev. Moon's teacher for many years. He follows in the tra-dition of historic Christian figures who had the courage to say what Christ wanted said, no matter what the consequences. Reverend Moon is speak-ing Sunday night about the Bible and about your rela-tionship to the living God. It is my sincere hope you will go with a prayerful concern to hear if his words really are in accord with Jesus Christ. Sincerely, Richard Panzer Unification Church of Fargo
