Magnus Johnson, '05, Dies Magnus Johnson, one of the nldesl graduates of the North Dakota School for the Deaf and a member of the class of 1905, died iii Calgary, Alberta, Canada, July 26, 1966. He was 83 years of age. Mr. Johnson who left the States to homestead in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, soon after his graduation, attended the .School's 75 Anniversary celebration in June, 1965. II was his first visit to the school in over -10 year:;. He was born in Iceland on June 10, 1883. He farmed in the Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, area for 45 years. The last seven years he lived with a son, William, in Calgary, Alberta. Rev. Robert Bauer, minister for the deaf in Edmonton, officiated at the services in The Little Chapel on the Corner, Calgary, on July 28, 1966. In- lerment was at Gull Lake. Saskatchewan. Survivors include, besides his son, William, two daughters, Dolly Tyreman of Barrhead, Alberta and Lillian Lawlor of Tuesnel, B. ('., and two sisters. Nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie, in 1947. "and six ounces. The name chosen is Brent Joe. BAPTISMS Tla- following were baptized by Rev. Roger J. Leonhardt in St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Devils Lake: Beatrice Jean Dockter, daughter of Christ and Virginia of Devils Lake; baptized on August 21, 1966, born June 7, 1966. Daryl Jay Frelich, son of and Esther Frelich of Devils Devils Lake; baptized on August 21, 1966, born June 25, 1966. BIRTHS A boy. to Mr. and Mrs Joe Znnich (Joyce Seneehai) of Grand Forks, September 15. He weighed seven pound.; Mr. and Mrs. John Weydahl of Portland, Ore., were North Dakota visitors in June. They visted John's parents in Killdeer, (hen stopped in Devils Lake where they were guests at the Dwight Rafferty home. While here they visited the school and Supt. and Mrs. Carl F. Smith. From Devils Lake they visited friends in Bismarck and elsewhere. Sadie continues to work in a bank in Beaverton. Ore. while John is a proofreader for a Tacoma, Wash., newspaper. Richard Scofield of Minneapolis, recently became a member of Minneapolis Division of tin- National Fraternal Society of the Deaf. He lias been employed at the Minneapolis Tribune-Star for over a vear. The Joseph Zunich family moved to Grand Forks in July from Williston. Joe is now employed at the Grand Forks Herald. Duane McDaniel is also employed at The Herald. The Adelore Pilon family recently purchased a new home in Grand Forks where Adelore is employed in a cabinet and woodworking shop. Harry Goddard of Duluth, Minn., was a visitor at. the school August 27. A printer in Duluth. his wife is the former Ruth Anderson, NDSD '33. who was visiting her aged father al Warwick. The Neil Shockman family of Sioux Falls, S D., moved to New Brighton, Minn., 'luring tin- summer. Neil is employed as a printer in Minneapolis. It is reported a long printers' strike in Sioux Falls, forced the move. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ward of West Fargo were visitors at tin- Dwight Rafferty home, August 21. Both are employed in Fargo, Roy as a linotype operator al Richtman's and anil Mis. Ward at the First National Bank as a clerk. Their son, Perry, continues to work at. Knight's Printing Co. in Fargo. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Elstad and boys of Denver, Colo., were visitors at the school August 15. They were making their annual visit to Loren's parental home, rural Devils Lake. They also were dinner guests at the Dwight Rafferty home during their stay in Devils Lake. In renewing his subscription (o the Banner last May, Gerald Gruwell of Duluth, Minn., sent in some news as follows: He has been plagued with ill health, undergoing four operations in a year and a half, but reports lie feels hot lor now than in a long lime. Tin' Gru- well's youngest son is managing a service station in Minneapolis. He reports Mrs. James Srur (Laverne Broten) is now working in Duluth, after living in Superior several years. It is reported Allen Reiland, who is employed in Ada, Minn., as a floorman in a print shop, was injured in a one-car accident during tin.' summer. Allan, after a visit in Fargo, was returning home tale one night. He decided to take a different route and ran into a dead end unexpectedly. Before he could stop, the car wenl into a deep dropoff. Allan received a broken nose and facial lacerations from hitting the windshield. The front end of the car was badly damaged. Mrs. Bert Poss (Doris Walks '45) of Austin, Texas, is a new subscriber. Her husband is a coach at the Texas School for the Deaf. He has been selected to attend the leadership (raining program in San Fernando, Calif., beginning in January, 1967. The Poss family has three children, a boy and two girls, aged 16, 14, 12, respectively. Peder Pederson of Fargo. seal in the following news: Roy Wheeler of Wheatland, N. I)., and I went to the Minot
