Summary:Martin Larson Aaserud Martin Aaserud was born January 6, 1850 near Bergen, Norway. He came to Chicago and was married to Maria Hoi- land, May 26, 1182. They came to Traill County in 1886 and farmed in Roseville Township until his death, October 14, 1897. Mrs. Aaserud died October 22, 1937. There were six children: one infant died in 1889, Amanda, Leonard, Ellen, Mabel and Otto, who passed away in 1956. John Amb John Mikkelson Amb, born June 25, 1849 in Hedemarken, Norway, came to Wisconsin in 1869, where he did railroad work. In April 1872, together with Fingal Enger and Iver F'etcher, walked from Fargo to this area. The three helped each other build log cabins. As they were not married they were free to leave to work on the railroad, steamboat, and for a surveyor company. In December 1882, John Amb married Ragnild Kulhusbraaten who came from Valdres, Norway in 1881. She was employed at Heskins until marrying Mr. Amb. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Amb. They were: Ellen, Emil, Thomas and Christine (all deceased), and Martin, Nicolai and Guri. Mr. Amb passed away April 3, 1893. Halgrim Larson Halgrim Larson was born in Iowa, March 10, 1857. His wife's name was Martha Rockney, born November 18, 1857 in Minnesota. They came to Port land in June 1, 1878. He was a farmer. Married in Iowa on January 1, 1877. Migrated from Minnesota in covered wagon and settled in Traill Co., Roseville Twp. Halgrim Larson died in 1912. Mrs. Larson died Dec. 3, 1902. A family of six children were born; only two surviving are Mrs. C. E. Knudson (Effie) Great Falls and Mrs. Louise A. Anderson of Bay City, Tex. "Gamle Danske", itinerant blacksmith, came to this territory well before the turn of the century. He traveled from town to town and took advantage of the hospitality of the local blacksmiths. He was well known, in a radius of 50 miles of Portland. His main income was derived from selling punches, chisels, and nippers that he made; as well as knives made from worn out files. "SKAL DU KOBE KNIEBETONG" Dr. Kristian Arnt Wadel Kristian Arnt Wadel was born in Trom- so, Norway. He was a descendant of Danish royalty with a mixture of German blood. He attended schools in Tromso and graduated from the University of Oslo. He later attended the Universities of Berlin and Copenhagen. He also spent some time at several Universities of this country. In 1876 a sister came to America and was soon joined by Dr. Wadel who practiced in Portland until the 1920's when he affiliated with the Fargo Clinic where he remained until his death. Mrs. Wadel still resides in F'argo. They had two children, Frances and Doris. Gullick H.
