Summary:AGRICULTURE & RAW MATERIALS AGRICULTURE GENERAL DATA Agriculture is the most important segment in the Parshall economy, as it is throughout North Dakota. Mountrail County has 1,150 farms with an average size of 1,010 acres and an average value of $36,652. In 1965 Mountrail County harvested 3,348,000 bushels of wheat from 124,000 acres; 2,520,000 bushels of durum from 80,000 acres; 1,276,000 bushels of barley from 29,000 acres; 1,890,000 bushels of oats from 35,000 acres; 364,000 bushels of rye from 14,000 acres; and 89,800 tons of hay from 69,000 acres. It is estimated that in 1964 Mountrail County had 19,000 beef cows which produced 14,250 calves; 900 sows which produced 6,000 pigs; 5,000 ewes which produced 5,000 lambs; and 25,000 hens which produced 312,500 dozen eggs. • Ipy* '*%*Pr " *J^ 1 r 1 1M feSate«fe:' TSK'viV.'. 1 '* - 1 SOILS RANGE HERD OF BEEF CATTLE The soils of the Parshall area are generally the dark brown soils of semi-arid grassland. They range from gently rolling soils with a thick dark brown surface layer called Chestnut and its associated soils with a claypan subsoil (Solonetz), to steeply sloping soils with a thin surface layer called Regosol or Lithosol.
