They have three children and live in Jamestown N. D. She works in the White Drug. — by Mrs. Arthur Bertsch LEVI DANIEL HAYWARD Levi Hayward was born May 19, 1829, at Rutland, Vermont. He served two and one half years, in the army with the "boys in blue", during the Civil War. He had a store in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and later he was a farmer. He came to North Dakota as a widower, in 1905, with his two daughters, Goldie and Louetta, from Beaver Creek, Minnesota. They lived several years on the southeast quarter of Section 14-144-72. Goldie married Albert Frettim about 1912. He had a homestead in Section 8 about 1910. They lived several years near Carrington, North Dakota and later New Rockford, North Dakota, where he died. Mrs. Frettim now lives in Gladstone, Oregon. Louetta married John Thompson, December 9, 1915, and gave her father a home, until his death in October of 1918. JOSEPH HAZEL, SR. Joseph was born July 16, 1874 in Germany. Joe came to New Ulm, Minnesota when he was 16 years old. He lived there for many years working as a farm hand. Around 1908 Joe came to Sykeston, North Dakota. In 1909 he homesteaded three and one-half miles north of Pettibone, North Dakota. In 1910 Joe met Effie Sloan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sloan — born in May, 1884. She had filed on a homestead west of Robinson, North Dakota. They went to Sykeston, North Dakota to celebrate the Fourth of July and they ended up getting married on July 5, 1910. So Effie then sold her homestead claim. They lived on Joe's homestead. There were two children born there; Elizabeth and Carl. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hazel, Sr., Elizabeth & Carl In 191 I Joe sold hay and hauled it to the railroad when the railroad was built across the lake west of Lake Williams. They left their homestead and bought a farm from Joe Williams in the year of 1914, north west of Lake Williams on No. 36. Joseph and Raymond were born there. In 1920 Joe and his family moved down by Woodworth and Medina on a farm. Doris was born in 1924. Then they returned back to Lake Williams in the 1930's. Elizabeth married Vernon Williams, had three children: LeRoy, Kenneth, and Bernice. They separated. In later years Elizabeth married Lewis Williamson, and nad one daughter, Esther Lu. Lewis passed away in February of 1942. Then Elizabeth married Clarence Brady. LeRoy served in the Navy four years and married Bonnie Gentry of Cottonwood, Idaho. They have three children and live in Elk City, Idaho. LeRoy drives a logging truck. Kenneth served eight years in the Navy and married Viola Chapman. They have three girls and make their home in Cottonwood, Idaho. Kenneth is the owner of a Chevrolet filling station in Cottonwood. Bernice married Orrin Chapman. They have four children and live at Elk City, Idaho. Orrin is a caterpillar driver in the woods. Esther Lu married Lamar Grant of Longview, Washington and they make their home there. Carl married and now makes his home in Portland, Oregon. They have five children. Joseph Jr. married Alyce Mae Leclair. They make their home in Portland, Oregon and have two boys. Joseph works at Folgers Coffee plant. Raymond married a Wave girl, Janice. They have three children and and live at New Castle, Delaware. Raymond is a mechanic in a sock factory. Doris married Robert Fisher of Medina, North Dakota. They have three girls. Robert was a mail carrier of Medina, then they moved to Monore, Washington. Robert passed away in June of 1957.
