Summary:Milfred and Evelyn Fougner Evelyn Jacobson and Milfred Fougner were married June 7, 1946, at Aneta. They farmed north of Aneta until 1975 when Milfred died. Evelyn and Milferd had two children, Donald and Carol Ann. Donald, born Oct. 23, 1947, married Nancy Moen, daughter of Gordon and Jean Moen. Carol, born May 18, 1954, married Larry Ulvog. They have two children, Loren and Carissa, and live in Moorhead, Minn. Evelyn is active in Sundahl Senior Choir and ALCW. She makes her home in Aneta. Kenneth and Bernice Fougner Kenneth and Bernice (Jacobson) Fougner were married in March 1945 and are the parents of one son, Gary, born in 1949. They farmed and lived in Ora Township until 1965 when they moved to Aneta where they built a new home. Kenneth is a World War II veteran, having served for three years in the Army. He is now retired. Their son, Gary, married Roxanne Gjerdevig of Carrington, N.D. They presently live in New Mexico and have one child. Carl Gaastjon Carl Gaastjon was born June 24, 1893, near Northwood, N.D., the son of Aamond and Ingeborg Gaastjon. He served in the Army during World War I in Brent, France, as a military policeman. He is a member of the American Legion, Edward A. Broberg Post No. 16, in Aneta. Carl worked as a farm laborer and farmed with his brother, Oscar, southwest of Aneta. He is a retired member of the Aneta Volunteer Fire Department. He is a member of Sundahl Lutheran Church. On his 90th birthday in 1983, his sister, Mrs. O.L. Walhood (Christy) held an open house in his honor. Carl makes his home with the Walhoods. Oscar Gaastjon Oscar Gaastjon was born May 29, 1889, at Northwood, N.D., the son of Aamond and Ingeborg Gaastjon. He was a farmer and laborer. Oscar and his brother, Carl, farmed land southwest of Aneta, now the Ed Zimprich farm. He also worked for many years in a factory at Conrad, Minn. Oscar was a member of the volunteer fire department and a member of Sundahl Lutheran Church. He passed away in 1975. John A. and Ruth Gargrave John Almon Gargrave was born May 15, 1899, in Rugh Township. His parents died when he was very young so he was reared by Oscar and Tollef Ellefson and Mr. and Mrs. Ellef Olson. He married Ruth Groseth in 1929. They were the parents of a son, John Arlyn. Ruth passed away in 1937. In June 1940 John married Mabel Sande. They were the parents of a daughter, Mary Beth (Mrs. Fred Nygord) of Grand Forks. John was employed by Otter Tail Power Co. for 37 years. He retired in 1964 and enjoyed much traveling during that time. He died in 1979. Thomas L. Gargrave Thomas L. (Tommy) Gargrave was born March 8, 1893, in Grand Forks County and came to Aneta with his parents about 1900. He lived most of his life in Aneta, where he worked as a handyman and carpenter. He died April 13,1969. Andrew and Sophia Gesvold Andrew and Sophia Gesvold Andrew Gesvold was born March 2, 1863, at Trondhjem, Norway, and came to America in 1883. He came to Aneta in 1885 and was one of the oldest settlers. He was married to Sophia Olson May 26, 1890. Sophia was the daughter of Ole and Anna Olson, who homesteaded in Ora Township in Section 17 in 1884 and later filed on Section 18, now the Melvin Field farm. Sophia was born Sept. 18, 1872, and was the first person to be confirmed at Sundahl Lutheran Church in 1888. Andrew and Sophia were the third couple to be married at Sundahl Church also. They farmed in Ora Township until they retired and moved into Aneta where they lived the remainder of their lives. To this union were born nine daughters and two sons. They were: Emma (Mrs. Peter Sandbeck), Alma (Mrs. Joseph Johnson), Mabel (Mrs. Melvin Kulseth), Lorenze (Mrs. Dan Hillesland), Selma, Obert, Sezel (Mrs. Selmer Hillesland), Ellen (Mrs. Oliver Broe), Myrtle (Mrs. Robert Otterson), Leonard, Edna (Mrs. Mel DeHart). They also raised a grandson, Mickey Johnson of Minot, N.D. Andrew passed away Nov. 15, 1948, and Sophia on Aug. 18, 1952. Two daughters, Edna and Sezel, still live in Aneta. Ellen lives in Minot. O. M. and Hattie Greenland O. M. Greenland (May 12, 1875-1937) was a pioneer merchant and one of Aneta’s leading citizens. He was manager-owner of The Aneta Merchantile for thirty-two years. He married Hattie Saxrud in 1908. The couple had three children: Mrs. Sigstad (Phyllis), Rennewick, Wash.; Mrs. Glenn C. (Elaine; Lee, Pasco, Wash.; and Max, Pasadena, Calif.
