Halvor and Anna were married at the Valley Grove Parsonage on July 20,1892. Their first home was a three room frame house covered with tar paper. They, like everyone else of the early settlers, endured hardships. However they succeeded in expanding their farming operations to a section of land and continued grain farming and raised livestock. They experienced sorrow by the death of their son at an early age but a friendly community was of great comfort to them. Halvor and Anna enjoyed entertaining friends and relatives in the new seven room home built in the early 1900’s. The family enjoyed outings at the Sheyenne River with picnics and swimming and later at Stump Lake and Red Willow Lake when they acquired their first car, an Overland touring car. They were especially interested in education, Halvor having done some teaching, and were instrumental in establishing a consolidated school in Kloten. The older children attended high school in Fargo and Northfield, Minn. Later, four years of high school were available in Kloten. 826 Scanned with a Czur book scanner at 300 dpi.
