Summary:Nesheim Township Nesheim Township was organized in 1884. The first meeting was held on June 29 of that year. The township was first called Norway and was later changed to Nesheim. It was named after Knute Nesheim who was one of the first settlers; he built a house and barn by the Sheyenne River when he came in 1880. Torger Mikkelson, Ole and John Bue, and Brita Stene also settled by the Sheyenne that same year. Torger Mik­kelson and Ole Bue came from Iowa in a prairie oxen schooner. They came through Valley City and followed the Sheyenne to section 8. They reported everything as being “lovely”. Early gatherings of pioneers on Sampson Bridge between George Christenson’s and Jim Loe’s. Norway Lutheran Church Churches Norway Lutheran Church was organized on Feb. 2, 1900. Charter members were: S.S. Quanbeck, Harris Oakland, Tollef Stenson, John Stenson, Halvor Anderson, Lars Helgeland, Jens Bergh, Peter Christenson, Rasmus Set-tivig, Iver Clauson, Kristian Fosse, and Knute Erickson. The first Pastor was Henry Eliasson. The New Luther Valley Church was organized on Feb. 5, 1882. Charter members were: Torger Mikkelson, Rollev Johnson, Ole and Andrew Olson, Sam Samson, Anfin Helgeland, and Aad Rauland. Rev. I.O. Lundeby was the first Pastor. Rev. Eliason and family, first pastor at Norway Lutheran Church New Luther Valley Church, built in 1885. Rev. I.O.
