Figbjorn Benson was born in. Iceland and came to North Dakota in 1882, settling on a homestead north of Mi,ton. Mrs. Benson was born Jennie Johnson in Iceland in 1874 and came to North Dakota with her parents in 1888. She married Mr. Benson in 1896 and they contiued to live on the land he had homesteaded until ho died in 1909. Mrs. Benson died in December 1960. A son, Leonard, lives in Mountain and a daughter, Mrs. P. A. Johnson, lives in Langdon. Two other children, Mrs. Or.en Olson and Christian Benson, live at Bellingham, Wash. Steine Goodman, died in November 1960. He was born in 1864 in Iceland and came to America in 1883. He married Solveig Jonnson and homesteaded in South Olga township. Three children were born to them. His sons, Mundi and John, are on the farm. Mrs. Goodman, who was born in 1870 at Riverton. Mian., died in 1941. Halli Peterson, who was bom in 1893 and farmed in Olga township, died in 1960. Mrs. Peterson and a son Einar reside in Milton. There are three other children. 1961 — Milton Has Modern Sewer System Dakota Premium Pork, Inc., a Milton area cooperative "pig hatchery," unique in this section of the state, was organized with the expectation that it would increase Cavalier county's hog production. Another civic improvement project was completed in Milton with the installation of a modern sewer system and sewage disposal lagoon. William G. McBride, who was postmaster at Milton from 1933 until he retired in 1948, died April 15, 1961. He was born to John and Elizabeth McBride February 25, 1875, in Ontario, and came with them to Milton in 1882. He farmed from 1895 until he and his family moved to Milton in 1925. He was a past master and former secretary of the Milton Masonic lodge of which he was a member 47 years. He was married January 3, 1900, to Belle C. Laing, at Guelph, Ont. Six of their nine children survive and among them are Eleanor, who is Mrs. H. W. Robbins, postmaster at Milton; Grace, who is Mrs, Andy Johnson of Osnabrock; Leonard McBride of Crystal, and Prof. Woodrow McBride of UND at Grand Forks, Mrs. McBride died September 22, 1957. Mrs. David Swanlaw died March 24, 1961, at Oak Lawn, 111. Funeral services were held in the Milton Presbyterian church. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Jbhnson and was born in Iceland September 29, 1869. She came to Canada with her family in 1876, and in 1882 they came to the Gardar community. She worked as a seamstress in the Milton vicinity until her marriage in 1896 to David Swanlaw. They farmed near Milton and later moved into town where she lived after the death of her husband until she went, to live with her daughter in Illinois. 1962 — Milton's Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committees which had started planning many months ago got busy with work on arrangements for the celebration of Milton's Diamond Jubilee June 13 and 14. As weeks and months passed the thinking and planning grew into excitement as final details were being worried about and looked after. Jubilee month finds everyone ready and waiting to make the Jubilee celebration the biggest birthday party and homecoming in the history of Milton. In Conclusion We, who have written this book, hope there is something herein that will appeal to each one who reads it. It is possible that some of the information is not exactly as you remember it, but it has been our sincere hope that you will be tolerant and will believe that we have earnestly tried to do the very best we could with the information obtainable.
