Summary:(6), Nathan (3) and Michelle(1). David attends NDSSS at Wahpeton studying to be a Civil Engineer. Sally is attending Community College In Fergus Falls training to be a lab technician. Roger served in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam war. Since his discharge, he has worked in the uranium mines in Shirley Basin, Wyoming. EDWIN Sandvig married Helen Sprunk of Leonard, ND. They are retired farmers and live in Leonard. They spend their winters in Texas. ELNER Sandvig was born at Sheldon and married Opal Johnson on Dec. 26, 1940. He and his wife farmed at Sheldon (SWW-22 Coburn) on the Sandvlg farm where Gene Strands now live. They then moved to Leonard where he was custodian at the school. They had two children: Roland of West Fargo and Arlo of Kindred, ND. SCHEEL Herman Scheel (October 8,1887-December 8, 1968) was born in Germany and migrated probably with the Doeling family to the U.S.A. about 1902. He married Elsie Schunk, the daughter of George Schunk of Sheldon, ND. Elsie (January 28, 1894-May 2, 1967) taught school many years and was known as an excellent cook who baked the best angel food cakes. Herman served in the U.S. Army during World War I. Herman and Elsie lived in Adrian, ND, before moving to the Frank Peter's farm (NWW-13 Casey) and from there moved to the farm where they lived the majority of their married life (NEW-12 Casey). From there they retired into Enderlin where Elsie passed away. Herman passed away in Fargo, ND. Herman and Elsie had four children: Paul, Roy, Cora and one deceased. Paul Scheel graduated from Lisbon High School, served in the U.S. Army in World War II. and completed college at NDSU In Fargo, ND. He and his wife Lois Seelig Scheel live in Bloomington, Mn and have one daughter Kathy who lives in Stillwater, Minn. Paul Is employed by Allis Chalmers Corporation. In addition to being located in ND (Fargo, Jamestown, Dickinson), he has also been located in Omaha, Nebraska and In Winnipeg, Canada before moving to Minneapolis. Roy Scheel graduated from Enderlin High School and Wahpeton State School of Science. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then followed employment at Northwestern Bell Telephone In Fargo, ND, where he and his wife Ricky live. They have four children: Sally who is married and lives in Oklahoma; Janet who is married and lives in Moorhead, Mn; Sandra who lives in Monterey, California; and Peter who lives in Fargo. Roy's main interests are camping and preparing for retirement. Cora is a graduate of Enderlin High School and St. John's School of Nursing in Fargo, and now lives in Palo Alto, California. Cora worked one year at a hospital in Hot Springs, SD, then ten years at a hospital in Stanford, California, and now works for Syntex Corporation in Palo Alto doing research in developing new drugs for treatment of arthritis, asthma, skin conditions, as well as birth control. Her work involves travel throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. She also enjoys recreational travel and has visted many areas of the world including Europe,, South and Central America and Galapagos Islands; India and Nepal where she took a safari trip ridinq on an elephant; Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Israel; a camera safari to East Africa, Ethiopia and Kenya; Australia and New Guinea where she had a disastrous riverboat tour of the Bensbach River. Her boat capsized in a river known to be full of crocodiles and she lost much of her belongings, but she was rescued by a group of natives who paddled out In dugout canoes to rescue her and her eight companions. She hopes someday to travel to Antarctica. SCHILDBERG [see Kelm] SCHIMMING Gust Schimming came to the U.S.A. from Germany at the age of seven with his mother, father, two sisters and three brothers. They settled in Cass County near Leonard, ND. The children had to help wherever they could to earn their board and room, so Gust got work right away, and at the age of seven started herding cattle for a Mr. Heuer. Many nights he cried himself to sleep—a lonely, frightened little boy in a strange country and strange people. Later he worked as a hired man for the William Watt family. William Watt was a Senator in ND for many years. In 1910, Gust married Alice Lemnus and started farming in the Leonard area on rented farms, and in 1927 the farm was sold and the only place Gust could find to rent was owned by Lloyd and Dave Jones. It was a half section (NV2) located two miles east and two and a half miles south of Sheldon (buildings were on NWW-35 Greene) where they rented until 1941 when they bought the farm. Gust and Alice had seven children, two sons and five daughters: Grace, Russell, Evelyn, Lyle, Winnifred, Mable, and Lucille. Grace worked outside the home until she married Richard Discher in 1936. They farmed near Davenport, ND, for many years, lived in Sheldon a few years, then moved to Moorhead where they worked until retirement which they are spending in Phoenix, Arizona. Richard and Grace had eight children, one son and seven daughters: Lyle, Phyllis, Janice, Judy, Marlys (Mrs. Bruce Yoder), Mary, LaNeta, Vicky, and Charlene Discher who passed away at age two. Lyle and his wife Karlene Maul have three children: Cherole Discher; Calvin who married Teresa Williams; RaNae who married Konrad (Casey) Wurm and they have a daughter Stephanie Wurm. 329 Phyllis (a 1955 Sheldon graduate) married Carl Burns (deceased) and they had three children: Joyce (Mrs. Tom Sundvor) who has two children, Tylor and Amanda; Jacquelyn (Mrs. Bruce Anderson) of Kansas who has two children, Liza Jean and Benjamin Allen; and Jennifer Burns. Phyllis (of Moorhead, Mn) married Russell Jegtvig (now divorced) and they had two children: Vincent and Jason. Janice Discher (Mrs. Conrad Huber) has one daughter Nancy (Mrs. Dennis Cossette) and they have a son Brent James Cossette. Judy (Mrs. George Stanley) has three children: Thersa, Vicky Jean and Karen Stanley. Mary (Mrs. David King) has three children: RaNae, Veronica, and Patrick King. LaNeta (Mrs. Nick Grossman) has four children: Richard (Ricky), Gerald (Jerry), Veronica, and Nicky Grossman. Vicky Lynn Discher (Mrs. Harlan Koester) has four children: Debra, Christina (Tina), Steven and Jeremia Koester. Russell Schimming farmed with his father for many years, then owned his own land later on, selling it to Jim Bueling for whom he hired out to help run his machinery for several years. Russell was always very careful and very courteous and a pleasure to have as company. He is now retired and living in Lisbon, ND. Evelyn remained at home until she married Dale Christman (q.v.) in 1950. Lyle Schimming served three years in World War II and in 1951 married Deloris (Bing) Dahl. They farmed the home farm several years, then moved into Sheldon where Lyle was the school custodian and bus driver until his death in 1962. Their two sons, Denton and his wife Sandy, and Scott all live in Seattle, Washington. Lyle has three adopted daughters also: Sandra (Mrs. Kurt Losse) of Fargo, ND; Joanne of Kansas City who has two sons; and Leanne of Wisconsin who has two children. Sandra has three children: Chad, Derrin and Nicole. Winnifred Schimming was a loveable little girl who passed away in 1929 at the age of ten. Mable taught school for two years, then married Victor Rotenberger in 1947. They farm ten miles south of Sheldon (NEW-8 134-54) just west of the Sheyenne River. They have one daughter Linda (Mrs. Jim Jerome); and three sons at home: Roger in the trucking business; Larry who works at Melroe Mfg; and Allen, a 1981 graduate of Lisbon, ND. Linda married Jim Jerome in 1971 and he is a Director at the school in Bemidji, Minnesota; their daughter Jennifer Lynn was born in 1980. Lucille was a secretary and worked In Fargo, ND, until she married Al Bye in 1949. He was a depot agent in Gackle, ND. They had three sons and one daughter: Michael, Joel, Mitchell, and Cynthia Mae who works in a clinic and lives at home with her mother. One son is in Washington, one in Wisconsin, and Mitchell attends school in Duluth, Minn. Lucille works at the General Store in Gackle and was a Sheldon graduate. Her husband, Al, passed away in 1978.
