Summary:Martin rented the farm for many years to different renters, sold the farm to Arnold Menge in 1950. Arnold rented the farm to Melvin and Marvin Sateren for many years. Martin and Christine Flom Nels and Carrie Flom Nels Flom, son of Torjus and Marit was born in Goodhue County, Minn on June 7, 1882 and died Sept. 29, 1964 at age 82. Carrie Wold was born at Lorn Gudbransdalen, Norway Oct. 7, 1884 and died March 20, 1971 at age 87. She came to Nelson County in 1903 and married Nels Flom June 14,1906 where Mr. Flom farmed until 1942. The family moved to Grand Forks, N.D. There were ten children born to this couple and to this date, March 1,1984, all are living. The family members are: Joseph T. of Golden, Colo.; Ole J. of Grand Forks, N.D.; Maynard, Michigan, N.D.; Neil K., Monte Clair, Calif.; Myrtle Manning, St. Paul, Minn.; Alice Pettier, St. Paul, Minn.; Deloris Williamson, Loveland, Colo.; Lillian Johnson, Lake City, Minn.; Ver- nille Thiel, Antioch, 111.; and Carol Shortridge, Augusta, Mont. Bernard and Mary Franzen Bernard J. Franzen was born July 6, 1924 at St. Paul, Minn., the fourth child of Edith and Paul Franzen. Bernard attended Center Township No. 2 school and Lakota High School. In June of 1945 he joined the Army and served 18 months in Greenland during World War II. On Aug. 27,1949 he married Mary Lehman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lakota. Mary is the daughter of Clarence and Mayme Lehman and was born at Avoca, Wis. on March 27, 1931, the fourth child and grew up at White Earth, N.D. In 1952 Bernard had purchased three quarters of land in Section 2 of Wamduska Township and farmed while trucking part time. He hauled bricks and gravel for years in Lakota. Bernard and Mary Franzen purchased the Frank Franzen farm located in Central Township and they, along with their four children, Marie, born Aug. 10, 1951; John, born Oct. 30, 1952; Susan, born Feb. 26, 1954; and Robert, born March 7, 1957, moved to the farm. In 1957 while living on the farm, there was no running water, a coal stove was used to heat the house and trees were cut to burn for fuel the first winter. Of the excellent crop that year, only half was harvested due to the rain which caused the wheat to sprout in the fields. Bernadette was born Oct. 10, 1958 and Charles on Nov. 19, 1959. In 1971 Jessica, five years; Ted, four years; and Joseph, three years were adopted into the family. In 1976, Lisa Lehman came also to join the family after the death of her mother. Marie graduated from Lakota High School in 1969, graduated from UND with a B.A. in nursing in 1973. She married Dennis Pozarnsky in 1973 and they currently reside in Colstrip, Mont. They have three children: Christie, Jared, and Lara. John graduated from Lakota High School in 1971, attended Hanson's Mechanic School in Fargo for two years and on Oct. 10, 1976 married LuAnn Shedd of McVille. Their children are Matthew and Lori. They reside on a farm seven miles north of McVille and farm in the area. Susan graduated from Lakota High School in 1972, and from NDSU with a degree in Home Economics Education in 1976. On June 5, 1976 she married Larry Richard of Fargo. They currently farm south of Fargo and have two children: Jackie and Alex. Robert graduated from Lakota High School in 1974 and attended one year of school at Arizona Auto Institute and one year at Wahpeton School of Science. He graduated from North Dakota State University in 1981 with a degree in agriculture education and in 1983 with a Master's Degree. He currently teaches in Parshal, N.D. Bernadette graduated from Lakota High School in 1975 and from UND with a degree in Computer Sciences in 1979. She married Fred Adams on Jan. 7, 1983. They resided in Bismarck, N.D. Charles graduated from Lakota High School in 1977 and from UND in Electrical Engineering in 1981. He married Kris Fleck, Dickinson, on May 26, 1983. Lisa graduated from Lakota High School in 1983 and will continue her education at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. Jessica is currently a senior at Lakota High School. Ted and Joe are high school students. Sitting: Jessica, Susan, Robert, Bernadette and Lisa.
