Elizabeth Eliza Garaghty Uriell (Edward's mother) came to Lakota with the family and died October 1908, buried in Iowa by her husband Lawrence, both were born in Ireland, settled in Iowa where their ten children were born. Ellen's parents, John and Mary Dolan Govern were born in Ireland, then came to Cherry Valley, near Rockford, 111., where their ten children were born. Edward moved to North Dakota (drier climate) because of asthma, and James Hill, owner of the Great Northern Railroad, was building that railroad west from Minneapolis and east from Seattle, was giving free train rides to the Dakotas, to persons wanting to buy land there, and if they did not buy they had to pay their way back. The railroad was completed by the North Dakota-Montana line in the early 1900s. In March 1902, it extended to a short distance west of Lakota. James Uriell family. Jason, Ellen, DeAnn, Charlette, James, James P., and Carrie. James and Charlotte Uriell James Uriell, son of Lloyd and Delores Uriell, lives on the family farm as a third generation farmer. He was in the dairy business for twelve years, now raises beef cattle and grain. Farm is located 3 miles east of Lakota, south of hwy. 2. Jim married Charlotte Vasicek, daughter of Hannah and the late John Vasicek, Brocket, N.D., July 14,1973. She was a graduate of Michigan High School and Hair Design School. Jim is a Lakota graduate. They are members of St. Marys Catholic Church. James and Charlotte have five children: Ellen, Carrie, Jason, James P., and DeAnn. Lloyd and Delores Uriell Lloyd, son of Edward and Ellen Uriell and Delores Vet- tel, daughter of John and Mary Vettel, Hilsboro, N.D. married June 1947 and settled on the family farm to till the soil with his brothers, Lawrence and John. They had a diversified farming operation, including cattle. Before marriage, he taught school at Enlow School for two years. They are members of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Their eight children are Patricia Neustrom (nurse) Burdick, Kansas, two children, Christina and Ryan. Delaphine Striefel, Kodiak, Alaska (plumbing business) children are Johnathon and Chandra. Edward, Lakota, insurance agent and real estate salesman. Margaret Lunski (nurse) St. Lukes Hospital, Fargo, children Jeff and Kimberly. James, Lakota, farms, he has five children. Joseph, Fargo, American Salt Co. Gerald and wife Sue Anne, Lakota, farms and has Uriell Custom combining. Robert, Houston, Texas, employed at Perkin-Elmer Computer Co. Lloyd Uriell family. Delaphine, James, Joe, Robert, ward, Patricia, Lloyd, Delores and Margaret. Gerald, Ed- The William Verwey family: James, Gary Janice, Lenora, Judy, Bill, Dawn, John. William and Lenora Verwey Bill was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada to John and Marie Verwey. John was born in Germany and Marie in Holland. Both are deceased. Bill graduated from Inkster High School in 1938. He became an American citizen in 1942 and served with the 11th Airborne Division. He received several medals including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, being discharged in December 1945. Bill farmed one year, worked at Goodman Electric and the elevator at Orr before coming to Mapes in 1950. In 1964, the family moved to Nekoma to manage Farmer's Elevator until 1977. He now owns and operates the Nekoma Bar. Bill served as clerk for Nekoma School. He is mayor of Nekoma. In 1981 he participated on the "To Tell the Truth" program in New York about the controversy of blacktopp- ing the street in Nekoma because of the missile traffic. It is done. He married Lenora West, daughter of George and Clara (born in Canada) West, 1946 at St. Marks Church in Conway, N.D. Clara West celebrated her 93rd birthday, Dec. 2, 1983. Lenora graduated from Inkster School in 1941, worked on the west coast during World War II, has been clerk of Nekoma School and is a member of Neighborly Homemakers Club. They are members of St. Edward Catholic Church in Nekoma. They are parents of six children. Janice (Mrs. Edward Kouba), two years UND, graduated from Bismarck's Mary College, teaches at Grimsrud grade school. Edward. UND graduate, was formerly with CETA program, works in State Dept., two children. James, UND graduate, Master's at Minot, is program coordinator of Barnes County Special Ed. He has two daughters.
