Summary:And Its Pioneers 489 Mrs. Helm died in 1918, and Mr. Helm died in the fall of 1925 at Hilda, Alberta, Canada, and was buried at Anamoose. A. R. JOSUND Afiolph R. Josund was born near Stavenger, Norway, on December 20, 1863. He was the son of Rasmus A. and Karen T. Josund. Mr. Josund came to America with his parents, landing on March 12, 1882, and going to Audobon, Becker county, Minnesota, to reside. On April 16, 1886, he arrived in Wells county and in June of that year he filed on a homestead on Section 30, township 148 N., range 68 W., now Fairville township, where he still resides. His parents arrived in June, 1886, and settled on government End in Section 25, township 148 N., range 68 W., now German- town township, where they resided until their deaths in recent years. In May, 1887, Miss Anna J. Bergeland came from Norway and was united in marriage with A. R. Josund, their marriage license was the first one granted in Wells county as that license law had just gone into effect. Their children are: Camille (Mrs. E. B. Berge), Julius M., Marshall Gerhart, Alfred Adolph, Mrs. John Stokke, Julia, Ruth, Otto Julius, and Walter Donald. Mrs. Josund died on August 10, 1921. Through Mr. Josund's efforts Fairview school district was organized in 1888, and he was made president of the first board of directors. He has also served as school clerk and township supervisor, and was a member of the WYlls county board of county commissioners from 1910 to 1918. He was responsible for the organization of the first Norwegian Lutheran church in 1888, with Reverend G. H. Thomasgaard the first pastor. In October, 1920, Mr. Josund was elected one of three delegates from Wells county to go to Fargo to organize the North Dakota Wheat Growers Association and he was chosen one of its state directors. In 1921 they incorporated under the State Co-Operative Marketing Act, he being named as one of the incorporators.
