Later when his folks moved off the farm and went back to Dresden, Germany, Fred and Lota bought the farm where they lived. Lota died February 3, 1938 and Fred later sold the farm to Arne Waltari and moved to St. John where he ran the hotel and cafe for several years. Then he retired and moved to Rolla where he lived in Mrs. Fiddlers Old Folks Home until he died January 26,1969. LOREN AND KATHRYN STURGIS Loren Sturgis was born in Middletown, Illinois in 1886. Kathryn Satorius was born in LeMars, Iowa. The Satorius family moved to Illinois where Kathryn met Loren and later married. They were married on January 29, 1909. They moved to Rolla shortly after they were married. They had one child, Mary Melissa Sturgis. While living in the Rolla area, Loren worked for Mr. Herman Shaver. He lived on a farm site of Mr. Shaver's north of Rolla. In 1912 Loren returned to Illinois due to a family death. Sometime during the year of 1916, they returned to Rolla, where Loren returned to farming at what is now known as the Henderson farm east of Rolla. In 1929 Mr. Sturgis moved his family to Rolla were he was employed with the Marcotte Meat Market. He worked for them a short time and also worked with Coghlan Construction on the building of the Alaska highway, employed as a cook. He later in future years worked for Albert Marchand as a carpenter, served a term as a deputy sheriff for Rolette County, and he worked for the Rock Lake Meat Plant as a butcher. He also was employed by Lyle and Esther Curry in the Super Valu. Loren passed away in October of 1975 at the age of 89, Kathryn died in February of 1964. Their daughter, Mary, is better known as Mrs. Fred Gailfus. She is currently living in Fargo, North Dakota, at the Bethaney Lutheran Home. ELMER AND LOUISE SUTTON Louise Guedesse, daughter of John and Delia (Menard) Guedesse, was born February 4, 1894. She married Elmer Sutton who was born September 23, 1878. Elmer was a brother of Emit Sutton, who was married to her sister, Alexina Guedesse. Elmer and Louise were married June 24,1913. They had three children: John Astor, born September 28,1915; Hugh, born April 28,1917; and one other son who died in infancy. They lived in the St. John and Rolla area, where he was involved in farming and mechanic work. He died May 7, 1921 from pneumonia. After his death, his wife Louise and two small sons lived on the John Guedesse Sr. farm near her brother John Guedesse Jr. In later years, she worked for Lincoln Hughes at Cando. Astor stayed at Hughes' farm with her and attended high school in Cando. She died April 4,1947 and was buried in Sacramento, California, where her sons were living. Emit and Alexina Sutton's wedding picture EMIT AND ALEXINA SUTTON Alexina Guedesse, daughter of John and Delia (Menard) Guedesse, was born May 8, 1895 and 442 married Emit Sutton, December 20,1915.
