Description
Summary:heart attack on is buried at St. John and Marie Jeanotte THE JOHN AND MARIE JEANOTTE FAMILY John B. Jeanotte was born December 1,1912 to Patrice and Mary Jane (Houle) Jeanotte at their farm home between Rolla and Belcourt. Marie May (Henry) Jeanotte was born May 13, 1918 to Xavier and Mary Jane (Jolibois) Henry, at their farm home near Thorne, North Dakota. Both John's and Marie's ancestors are of French/Indian (Metis) descent, from Canada. John attended school in Belcourt. In 1936-37, he attended State School of Science, Wahpeton, North Dakota, obtaining a certificate in auto mechanics, which became his lifetime trade. Marie attended Shell Valley country school near the Henry home and Flandreau Indian High School, South Dakota. John and Marie were married at Belcourt on March 1, 1937. They lived in rural Belcourt for several years, until they purchased a house which they moved to Rolla in 1952. There was no electricity nor running water in the country, so the move with these new conveniences was a blessing. They set their house on the north end of Rolla, on land they purchased from Fred and Mary Gailfus, along the Airport road and what is now 714 NE 4th. Theirs was one of very few houses there at that time. The school, Hwy. 5, Petersons' farm and Gailfus' fields could all be seen very clearly from their home. Marie enjoys telling of looking out her east kitchen window one time then, seeing ducks in the large slough area (now known as Bulova Addition), taking John's .22 rifle in hand, pointing it out the window and shooting a duck! John worked as an auto mechanic in Rolla for the Ford garage, Wayne's Implement, Theel Chevrolet and the Rolla Implement. He owned and operated a mechanic's garage on the reservation line, under the name "Jeanotte's Service," until his retirement in 1975. John died, at age 64, of a January 13, 1977, at home. He Joachim Cemetery. Marie was a housewife for many years until her children were school age. She then began working at William Langer Jewel Bearing Plant in the pasting department, from which she retired in 1981, after 27 years there. Marie now spends winters in California with her daughter, and returns to Rolla in time to plant flowers and garden, and to "s"mother her seven children, 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
