Summary:Shanley was consecrated bishop in St. Paul on December 27 at the St. Paul Seminary Chapel (used as the Cathedral). Bishop Shanley was the first Bishop of Fargo. His residence was in Jamestown from January 1890 to August 1891 and thereafter lived in Fargo where he died on July 16, 1909. Bishop O'Reilly, DD. governed the Diocese until 1934, and Bishop Aloyisus Muench governed from 1935-1960. Bishop Leo Dworschak was auxiliary Bishop from 1947 and assumed the see of Fargo when Muench was elevated to the Cardinalate in 1959. In 1970 Bishop Driscoll assumed the care of the Diocese and currently governs the flock of Christ. THE SECOND CHURCH IN OLGA IS BUILT IN 1883 It was soon apparent that the log church was not big enough for the growing parish of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. In 1883 the population of the parish reached some 300 families which indicated a phenomenal growth. The parish numbered Indians, Metis, French Canadians, and Irish. In 1883 a new frame church was built. The new structure stood just south of the present rectory, built in the traditional direction, east and :0-_ f**~ II The altar of the first frame church before moving to the new church in 1917. west, in that the people prayed facing East. The main doors faced west. The lapd for this church and the cemetery was donated by David Beauchamp, one of the original dwellers who operated a trading post and with Fr. St. Pierre really "founded" the parish. An apartment was added on to the frame church in 1884 for the priest.
