| Summary: | 6th. Earlier Pastor Lars Skrefsrud, the founder of the Santal Mission, also visited Fort Ransom. A history that man may write of a congregation will at best be very incomplete, because we fail to record the most essential—the spiritual phase of the work of the church. That too is recorded in the Book of Life and will be revealed. The Standing Rock congregation faced many problems and floundered a bit now and then but even during the period of non-affiliation with any church body, it continued to grow and to serve and now rests in the fond embrace of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. It proved that it was a true Christian congregation and accepted the divine commission to work the works of Him that sent them! Would that God increase the mortals Inside of His temple's portals; Sanctify them from above, And increase their mother love. The history of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Forman is of necessity intimately connected with the life of her people in their ancestral homes to the time of their settlement on the North Dakota prairies. These early settlers who constituted the nucleus of the Forman congregation came in the 83's to 86's having stopped on the way for a while in older settlements in eastern Dakota and Minnesota. For the most part they came from the Toten and Nordland in Norway and some from Sweden and Denmark. They came in true immigrant fashion—by foot, by oxcart, by covered wagons, and settled mostly in Forman Township, Rutland Township and Weber Township. Looking for and finding suitable land, they proceed to build their humble homes, put in a little crop, and prepare for the winter. They were poor but they were young and had inherited a faith that nothing could destroy.
